Summary[edit]

Description
English: A map from the Vrba-Wetzler report, a report about Auschwitz based on information from Rudolf Vrba and Alfred Wetzler, two Jews who escaped from Auschwitz in April 1944 to warn the Allies and Jewish community about the gas chambers. Their report was sent all over the world and is regarded as one of the most important historical documents of the 20th century. Both authors have died.

The men's information and maps was compiled and sent to world leaders by members of the Judenrat in Slovakia. The report was eventually sent to the U.S. War Refugee Board, which was the first to publish it in full, along with other reports about Auschwitz, which have jointly come to be known as the Auschwitz Protocols. The English translation was completed by the Office of Special Investigations of the U.S. Department of Justice. I have therefore tagged this image as being a work of the United States government. The first known date of publication of the full report, along with the maps, was November 25, 1944, by the U.S. War Refugee Board.

Note: The map may appear to be upside down because the English in the top right corner is upside down, but the Yiddish appears to be the right way up.
