Summary[edit]
DescriptionBalwen Black Mountain sheep - Llantwit Major - geograph.org.uk - 1573405.jpg |
English: Balwen Black Mountain sheep - Llantwit Major The name Balwen is derived from the Welsh word 'bal' meaning white blaze and the breed standard is for it to have a base colour of black/brown or dark gray, with a white blaze on the face, four white feet and a half white tail. There are several flocks of this hardy breed in the area though they are quite variable in colour with their white patches not conforming to the standard. The ancestry of all Balwens can be traced back to the Tywi valley. |
