Description
English: Potiquet’s 1891 anatomical illustration shows the openings of both the nasopalatine duct and vomeronasal organ.

Captions: 1) pad made of Jacobson’s cartilage; 2) opening of Jacobson’s canal, into which a probe has been inserted; 3) septal tubercle; 4) nasopalatine infundibulum (funnel) leading to the nasopalatine canal through the bone; 5) opening of the sphenoidal sinus; and 6) frontal sinus.

Français : Illustration indiquant, dans la cavité nasale, la position de l'ouverture du canal nasopalatin (4) et du canal voméronasal (2). Chez la plupart des mammifères, ces canaux permettent le passage des informations phéromonales recueillies par le léchage ou le flehmen. Chez l'être humain, ces canaux sont en général obturés et les molécules phéromonales ne peuvent plus passer de la bouche à l'organe voméronasal.
