Caption: Nadir Shah of Persia (1732-1747). Three-quarter length, in an oval cartouche. The Shah wears a scarlet tunic with a sleeveless outer garment trimmed with fur. On his head is a high cap (a ‘tahmazi’) ornamented with a jewelled aigrette. The face is turned a little to the right. The left hand rests on the hip, the right holds a string of pearls. Jewelled bracelets on his upper arms.
