The ceremony, televised in the United States by ABC, was produced by Samuel Goldwyn Jr. and directed by Marty Pasetta. The Last Emperor won nine awards, including Best Picture and Best Director for Bernardo Bertolucci. For their performances in Moonstruck, Cher (pictured) and Olympia Dukakis won Best Actress and Best Supporting Actress, respectively.
