Dring was educated at the De Aston School in Market Rasen. He started his career as an assistant to producer Cameron McVey.[citation needed] Dring has worked with various artists, including Gorillaz, Jamie T, Loyle Carner, Beyoncé, Nilufer Yanya, Lana Del Rey, Sorry (band), KennyHoopla, Genesis Owusu, Honeyblood, and Self Esteem.
Dring's work on the Gorillaz track Feel Good Inc. was credited in the award nomination for the "Record of the Year" category at the 48th Annual Grammy Awards. The 2008 documentary "Bananaz" highlighted Dring's role in producing Gorillaz's albums "Demon Days" (2005) and "D-Sides" (2007), shedding light on his contributions during the recording of the song "Rockit". He has worked with Jamie T on several studio albums, including "Panic Prevention" (2007), "Kings And Queens" (2009), "Carry On The Grudge" (2014), and "Trick" (2016).
Dring received both Grammy and Golden Globe award nominations for his contribution to the Beyoncé song "Once In a Lifetime", featured in the film Cadillac Records, along with Amanda Ghost, Scott McFarnon, Ian Dench, and Jody Street.
Dring served as the producer for "925" (2020), the debut album by Sorry. He has also contributed to their follow up album “Anywhere but Here”.[citation needed]
In 2022, Bucks Music Group announced the signing of Dring to a worldwide songwriting agreement. In 2024 he was the producer for the debut EP, "Head Leaking", by the London based quartet Terra Twin. Dring has been described in the music press as a "revered producer".
