Selected article Cottontail rabbits are among the 16 lagomorph species in the genus Sylvilagus. The genus is widely distributed across North America, Central America, and northern and central South America. Selected breed The Angora rabbit (Turkish: Ankara tavşanı) is a variety of domestic rabbit bred for its long, soft wool. The Angora is one of the oldest types of domestic rabbit, originating in Ankara, Turkey, along with the Angora cat and Angora goat. The rabbits were popular pets with French royalty in the mid 18th century, and spread to other parts of Europe by the end of the century. They first appeared in the United States in the early 20th century. They are bred largely for their long Angora wool, which may be removed by shearing, combing, or plucking. There are many individual breeds of Angora rabbits, four of which are ARBA-recognized. Selected quote

It is said that the earliest magician to pull a rabbit out of a hat was Louis Comte in 1814, though this is also attributed to the much later John Henry Anderson. This magic trick is so well-known that it has been referenced in a wide variety of media.
