In anatomy, a fossa (/ˈfɒsə/; pl.: fossae (/ˈfɒsiː/ or /ˈfɒsaɪ/); from Latin fossa, ditch or trench) is a depression or hollow usually in a bone, such as the hypophyseal fossa (the depression in the sphenoid bone).
