Summary[edit]
DescriptionSport and Leisure during the Second World War H7497.jpg |
English: IWM caption : "Sport and Leisure during the Second World War. Men from Bolton Wanderers Football Club serving together with a battery of artillery (53rd Field Regiment, Royal Artillery, 42 Division, 11 Corps) at Beccles on the east coast of England. Photograph shows: the nine footballers in uniform pulling an artillery piece".
Comment 1 : The men appear to be cleaning the barrel by pulling a "pull-through" through it, not towing it. Note rope coming out of breech and leading man's foot on the carriage's spade. However, pull-throughs were normally pulled through the muzzle, and far fewer men were needed. Comment 2 : This appears to show a US 75 mm M917 field gun, based on the British 18-pounder, transferred to Britain in World War II for training and home defence. |

Licensing[edit]
This image is in the public domain because it is a mere mechanical scan or photocopy of a public domain original, or – from the available evidence – is so similar to such a scan or photocopy that no copyright protection can be expected to arise. The original itself is in the public domain for the following reason:
This tag is designed for use where there may be a need to assert that any enhancements (eg brightness, contrast, colour-matching, sharpening) are in themselves insufficiently creative to generate a new copyright. It can be used where it is unknown whether any enhancements have been made, as well as when the enhancements are clear but insufficient. For known raw unenhanced scans you can use an appropriate {{PD-old}} tag instead. For usage, see Commons:When to use the PD-scan tag. Note: This tag applies to scans and photocopies only. For photographs of public domain originals taken from afar, {{PD-Art}} may be applicable. See Commons:When to use the PD-Art tag. |
