Deutsch: Wappen der Hartlieb genannt Walsporn aus Johann Siebmacher: New Wappenbuch,
Das Geschlecht (andere Namensnennung war: Hartliep, genannt Walsporn, Hartlieb-Walsporn) stammt für das heutige Deutschland aus dem Gebiet um Neustadt uf der Hart am Rhein der Churpfalz und Landau in der Pfalz, 1499 durch Maximilian I. geadelt. Eine Erklärung zur Namensverbindung steht in: (ADB 10 (1879), S. 669-670). Die Ausgabe Siebmachers von 1605 zeigt das Adelswappen, das leicht von der ältesten bekannten bürgerlichen Version des Wappens abgeändert ist.

Ein fast gleichlautendes Wappen einer Familie Hartlieb ist schon in der zweiten Hälfte des 15. Jahrhunderts (1477) in den Zünften der Schweizer Stadt Basel für einen Mathias Hartlieb, Hutmacher-Zunft, als bürgerliches Wappen registriert. (Siehe dazu Bürgerliches Wappen: Mathias Hartlieb und zur Zunftgeschichte) Es wurde vermutlich von verschiedenen Familienzweigen weitergetragen, die sich dann entlang des Rheins nordwärts ausbreiteten.
