Context as cited in the original data source (Anwar Rahman, Sinicization Beyond the Great Wall: China's Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region, Matador (Troubador Publishing), Leicester 2005, ISBN: 1-904744-88-5, Chapter 10: Demographic Reversal, pp. 131–140, here p. 135): "In Xinjiang, the residents under the jurisdiction of the central government in Beijing can be devided, according to their professions, into three categories: The first category concerns the XPCC [...] it is unlikely that the [...] XPCC is excluded from the Xinjiang census. [...] The second category involves mainly the military personnel in Xinjiang, notably the PLA, the General Armed Police Force stationed in Xinjiang. [...] The third category globalises the increasing number of professional units sent from Chinese inland provinces and deployed in the exploitation fields in Xinjiang. [...] Regarding the personnel under the jurisdiction of the central authorities in Beijing making up Xinjiang's demography, only the third category [...] is added to the Han population as effective residents in the following paragraphs. The number of this category, as confirmed by the Xinjiang Statistical Year Book, 1999, was 1,126,500 in 1998. Therefore, the Han population in 1999 and 2000 in Table 15 includes residents of the third category, which covers the exploitation workers under the jurisdiction of the central government.
