Simplified Illustration of Phosphorus Cycle and Human Interventions

Summary[edit]

Description
English: Phosphorus moves on earth in a natural cycle of weathering, leaching and new rock formation. This cycle extends over millions of years. In practical terms and in relation to the human lifetime, phosphorus is therefore not renewable, but only flows in one direction: from the rock through the soil and into the water. In some places, phosphorus can also be recovered, for example from sewage sludge, in order to then use it again in agriculture and for other purposes.
