- 7-Zip - for zipping
- Acronis True Image - tested for backup but now trying Toucan
- Adobe Reader
- Any FLV Player
- CamStudio - for screencasting
- DokuWiki - for a simple, no database open source wiki
- Internet Explorer - because some sites only work in IE
- Firefox -> Firefox Portable - but also Thunderbrowse - for web browsing
- HTML-Kit - for a text editor, but now trying FSPad
- Inkscape - for image editing, also trying Gimp
- iTunes - for son's iTouch - but just play music with VLC
- Juice - for subscribing to and downloading podcasts
- Launchy - didn't use it much - quick launch utility for Windows
- MediaWiki - use this lots for everything at Open Educational Resources (OER) and Wilderdom
- Microsoft FrontPage - as an html editor
- Microsoft Outlook - for work email at work
- Microsoft Powertoys - especially image resizer and a little bit TweakUI
- Microsoft Windows XP - eventually I hope something like Ubuntu
- Microsoft Office -> Word - Excel - Powerpoint - but only occasionally - I use Open Office instead
- Moodle - an open source learning management system - at UC via http://learnonline.canberra.edu.au
- MWSnap - Neat, windows screen capture - a favourite
- Open Office -> Writer - Calc - Impress - Draw
- PDF Split and Merge - Very handy for splitting or merging PDF docs
- PhotoStudio - A lightweight image editor - found a disk somewhere
- PrimoPDF - For generating PDFs
- R - Free and open source statistical analysis software
- Quiz generation - I used Respondus and Qedoc but then I learnt GIFT format and import to Moodle
- Skype - for VoIP
- SPSS - GUI for statistical analysis
- Taskbar Shuffle - Windows utility for changing order of open applications - A favourite
- Thunderbird - For email, with Thunderbrowse
- TreeSize - Windows tool for analysing the sizes of folders and files
- Ubuntu -> Edubuntu for the kids - Slowly transitioning from Windows to GNULinux operating systems
- VLC - for playing media files
- WinMerge - for analysing the text differences between files
